Let’s face it guys, most of us these days can’t stand romance, but it’s because we don’t understand it. Romance has been defined by shitty Hollywood chick flicks and boring Hallmark cards for too long. It’s time we take back the word romance and apply it to real life. A huge part of being a renaissance man is knowing how to treat a women, plain and simple. The saying “happy wife, happy life” is no joke. So let’s get down to it. Sit back and let us teach you how to be a suave and romantic man.

1. Do something inconvenient.

Here’s a simple rule of romance: the more inconvenient it is, the more romantic it is. Think that one through for a minute… this applies to almost everything with women. “Hey babe let’s take my car to dinner.” “It’s so nice out, can we walk?”… “Let’s order take out for dinner.” “Let’s cook a romantic dinner for each other!”… Case in point. If you want to woo your woman on this “special” day go big or go home.

2. Be thoughtful (or spend a lot of money on dinner).

You have two legitimate options to impress your woman to the point where she throws herself at you in a primal lust on V-day. 1. Understand who she is and what makes her tick at her very being and find that one small thing that will make her “oooh” and “ahh”. 2. If you guys just started dating OR you’re oblivious to your woman’s needs spend a lot of money on dinner – like, “holy shit I can’t believe you spent that much on a single meal” kind of money. Either way you win.

3. Cliche or not, buy your chick flowers.

We’re not just talking about buying your woman a single red rose and calling it a day. One thing that most men don’t know is that women are ridiculously particular about the kind of “flower girl” they are. Sounds crazy? Well, it is, but it’s the truth. Some girls LOVE roses, some girls HATE roses, some girls LOVE daisies, some girls hate them – on and on and on. Take a preemptive strike and casually ask your lady friend what kind of flowers she’s into. Trust us, it’ll pay off in a huge way.

4. Girls are addicted to chocolate – deal with it.

No matter what kind of woman you’re dating you can almost guarantee that they are obsessed with chocolate. Even if they genuinely hate the taste of chocolate they still love the IDEA of chocolate. Chocolate represents love, passion, and sex to women. Rule of thumb – buy the most ridiculously expensive and overly designed box of chocolate you can get your hands on. You’ll score yourself some major points.

5. Buy her something sparkly.

If it sparkles, buy it for her. It’s something that us as men will never in a million years understand, but it’s as true as the sun setting in the west. If you don’t have a gift in mind or an event planned for your lover then go to your local mall and buy the most obnoxiously shiny piece of jewelry you can get your hands on. Again, you’ll never understand it, just deal with it.

6. Champagne. More champagne.

What if we were to tell you that there’s a way to encapsalate everything a woman desires in a single glass? Well, it’s possible. Sparkles – check. Bubbles – check. Sweet – check. Expensive – check. Romantic – check. What is this magical solution? Champagne. Girls love champagne as much as they love puppies, flowers, and chocolates combined. Go for a designer bottle like Mumm Napa DVX Rose’ – it’s pink and it has a gold champagne flute charm around the neck. Ridiculous? Yep, she’ll love it…

7. Kisses. Lots and lots of kisses.

There isn’t much to explain here. If you’re dense and you don’t get this aspect of women, then turn it into a game. Set an outrageous number of times to kiss your chick on Valentine’s day, then try to beat it. You may think it’s overkill, but guaranteed no matter how outrageous this number is your woman will swoon over it.

8. Plan ahead.

Don’t get caught with your pants down this Valentine’s day. A great thing about this holiday is that it’s predictable, so plan ahead. Take the time to know your girls favorite flowers or restaurant and make a quick outline for the day or night. It’s really not rocket science gents.

9. Keep your eye on the prize boys.

Let’s be honest guys, there’s a point to jumping through all of these ridiculous hoops for our woman. It’s not so we can get a kiss on the cheek from our lover and a high five from our mates. There’s a more primal, physical reason for all of this. Well, I guess we don’t have to tell you guys… You’re men after all.

As a man there is one fact that you may not have been taught in the classroom or watched on Discovery, and despite how hard you try you still know that at the core of your very being it is true: Steve McQueen is better than you.

To say that Steve McQueen was a “man’s man” is a gross understatement. Steve McQueen was, and still is, the embodiment of all that is man. It’s as if Jesus came down from the high heavens, impregnated 17 Swedish models at the same time and the models, along with a pack of feral wolves and Hell Angel’s, raised McQueen in the Black Forest where he soon became the official representative of everything that is man.

Don’t believe this? Well, then you’re probably a woman. McQueen embodies the essence of the SOCIETY renaissance man, that’s why we have put together some empirical evidence highlighting the lack of flaws he had.

FACT: Steve McQueen could beat the shit out of you, and even if you somehow got a lucky blow in and knocked him to the ground he’d still win. How you may ask? Because McQueen was a real man and he carried a handgun on him at all times. McQueen – 1, You – 0

FACT: McQueen could have stolen your longtime girlfriend away from you just by showing her his car collection. Here’s a short list of the exotic sports cars the legend himself drove: Porsche 917, Porsche 908, Ferrari 512, 1963 Ferrari 250 Lusso Berlinetta, Jaguar D-Type XKSS (Right-Hand Drive), and a Porsche 356 Speedster. Good luck trying to trump that collection, loser.

FACT: Steve McQueen has been nominated for more Academy Awards than you’ve been nominated for. If you aren’t familiar with McQueen’s films take a break from reading this and watch “The Great Escape” and “Bullitt” – you’re welcome.

FACT: Steve McQueen is the original rebel. When McQueen served in the Marines he was promoted and demoted not once, not twice, but seven times. He smoked, drank, rode motorcycles, and would have corrupted your little sister. You’re as rebellious as a Catholic nun compared to McQueen.

FACT: Steve McQueen was on President Nixon’s “enemies list.” When McQueen found out he had been added to the “list” he didn’t run and hide, he stuck it to the man by flying a massive American flag outside his house in protest. In your face stupid Nixon.

FACT: McQueen is in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. What else needs to be said? … Being inducted into the moto hall of fame is the epitome of being a man, that and sleeping with a Victoria’s secret model while wrestling a grizzly bear.

FACT: Steve McQueen is more stylish than you. The man could pull off wearing a t-shirt and jeans while riding a vintage moto through the desert, and then throw on a sharp suit before an evening drive in his Ferrari, all the while looking like James Dean and Karlie Kloss‘s love child.

FACT: Steve McQueen didn’t give two shits about what anyone thought. The man is still, and forever will be, a legend because he did what all of us as men desire: he did whatever he wanted to do all the time.

Stop being a sissy and let your facial hair grow for longer than a day. Keep yourself in check by adhering to a strict manscaping routine, but get some hair on that girly face.

2. Learn how to dress

Let’s be honest here, any respectable woman isn’t going to go after you if you’re wearing cargo shorts and dirty sneakers. It’s time to step up your wardrobe. Buy clothes that fit your body type and check out a style blog every once in a while. Here are a few “how-to” visuals from SOCIETY.

3. Drive a motorcycle

You’re a grown man for Christ sake, now act like it by buying yourself a proper toy. Name one chick that doesn’t think a man on a legit moto isn’t 10 times hotter and we’ll hand over the keys to the company. Here are just a few of our dreams bikes.

4. Take care of yourself

There’s a reason why girls swoon over Ryan Gosling and not guys like Patton Oswalt. Hint: it’s not just because of Gosling’s charming personality. When’s the last time James Gandolfini was on the cover of People magazine for being the sexiest man alive? Never. Ever. So, get yourself in shape.

5. Design a respectable bachelor pad

There’s nothing worse than a guy that still hasn’t grown out of his college days. No one wants to walk into your creepy house with the Uni flag still hanging on the wall. Clean up your room, take the bar out of the living room, and turn your bachelor pad into something you can be proud of.

6. Date a real woman

It’s easy to fall into the beauty trap, but hold out and make sure you date a woman that is worth dating or you’ll quickly find your life is a living hell. Be patient and don’t get discouraged – that beautiful model who cooks, cleans, rides motorcycles, surfs, eats In-N-Out, and loves shitty comedies is out there somewhere.

7. Have a hobby

Stop being boring and pick up a new hobby in 2012. Whether it’s something active like surfing or skating, picking up photography, moto racing, traveling internationally, or painting… find a new positive outlet that let’s you express yourself.

8. Live on the edge

Stop being such a softy and live on the edge. Real men like Steve McQueen aren’t remembered because of how soft spoken and conservative they were. They’re remembered for living life to the fullest and never turning down a challenge. Get your hands dirty, scrape your knees up, party too hard, and act like a MAN for once. It’s ok to let loose every now and again, trust us you’ll be better off for it.
